Hello Friend.

This week, I released episode 55 of the Science & Chill podcast, in which I chat with Dr. Joseph Watso. Joe is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition & Integrative Physiology at Florida State University, where he directs the Cardiovascular & Applied Physiology (CAP) Laboratory.

Joe and I chat about a wide range of topics related to exercise and cardiovascular physiology, including some basics on blood pressure regulation, the effects of sodium intake on blood pressure, salt-sensitive hypertension, the effects of salt and sugar on vascular function, and how exercise can protect against the effects of salt and sugar intake on vascular function.

We also discuss some of Joe’s current research, in which he is investigating the effects of inspiratory muscle strength training on blood pressure in individuals with obesity. I also ask Joe about a very fun project he was involved with, where he got to perform physiological testing on a 70-year-old world record marathon runner named Gene Dykes.
