I think a lot of folks would want an "exercise in a pill"! 😄

I, for one, never felt good/better after exercise (especially high intensity), to the point where i almost stopped doing it completely, as it required completely clearing my schedule after the session (I guess looks like suffering from PEM?). If I could reap the benefits of exercise without the crash I'd pay a solid pile of cash for this pill.

I didn’t see any mention of the neurological effects of the exercise “secretome”. I feel the mental changes induced by exercise are maybe the most important. Can those be measured too? Are they a different set of peptides secreted by muscle that affect the brain?

Many overlapping, some brain-specific like BDNF. I think it is pretty well established that the neurological effects of exercise are also intensity-dependent, whether speaking of learning, alertness, executive function, etc!

Exercise in a pill just seems like an anathema to living well and I just don’t think it can be done. The problem with ‘omics studies in general is that there is too much of a signal. What is important versus what is just a byproduct of the perturbation. The fact that they had to look at only a subset of markers because most of them were going the “wrong” way highlights the difficulty and important context of acute versus chronic stressors. I think it also depends where you are on the training spectrum as well. It’s interesting but I think the message is move, and if you don’t have much time move quickly.
